Education Health and Care Needs Assessment

A full investigation of a child's learning difficulties can often lead to better support and provision and therefore better outcomes for the child. Parents have a right in law to ask their local authority to undertake an assessment of their child's special educational needs. Generally the LA will want evidence that the child has not made adequate progress despite extra support being put in place by the child's school. ACE's booklet helps parents to make a request for an assessment, prepare a report about their child for the LA and to understand the assessment process.
